The Moroccan Middle Atlas is a mountainous massif lying on some 350 km, southwest to the northeast of the Morocco, located between the gir and the High Atlas, and covering a total area of 2.3 million hectares, or 18% of the field altimontain of this country.
He mainly interested in the provinces of Khénifra, Ifrane, Boulemane, Sefrou, El Hajeb, Medilet and part of the provinces of Taza and Beni Mellal - referred to as the "door of the Middle Atlas".
This string is owned by the massif of the Atlas, and specifically, one three elements of the Moroccan Atlas - the other two being the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas.
The Middle Atlas is a territory with unusual charm, its wildlife and floristic biodiversity richness by an area to tourist vocation.
On its slopes, spread eye huge forests of Cedars, interspersed with deep valleys. Bordered by the rich plain of the SAIS, Egypt and the cities of Fez, Meknes and Beni Mellal, the Middle Atlas mountains are the stronghold of Berber tribes to the very sparse population, speaking the tamazight.

Located northeast of the Atlas. The Middle Atlas is closed to the East by Tazekka national park, gorges and caves dug landscapes. South of Sefrou, Cedars, Oaks and cork oak forests alternate with barren volcanic plateaus and small fish Lakes to the turquoise waters.
The jewel of the Middle Atlas is the national park of Ifrane in the causse atlasique between Khénifra and Ifrane and Tazekka Park, classified Ramsar convention with the Morocco.
The west facade of Taza in Azrou in situation of first descent for the disturbance coming from the ocean, is well watered (of 1 000 to 1 500 mm annual), favouring relatively lush pastures and lush forests. The Eastern valleys are much drier and see progress (forest floor of the Jbel Bou Naceur) desert. More continental than the gir, and generally wetter than the High Atlas, the Middle Atlas is harsh winters, with a tenacious over 2 000 to 2 500 metres snow (November / April).
The combination of temperature and rainfall is likely to create favourable conditions for vegetation belts: thus, there will be succeed in function of altitude and exhibitions, carob tree or kharroubier, Holm oak forests, and Cedars (cedrus atlantica), junipers, tetraclinis articulata or Cedar (Elaaraar), conifer and endemic trees.


Its location in the heart of the Morocco, an area of very high rainfall, the Middle Atlas gives the character of "Water Castle", both of hydrogeological terms to the hydrographic point of view.
